I've recently bought a jetglo 4003s. This bass ended a 25+ years of wasting money on the search for the holy grail. OP, I strongly suggest you to try if the treble pickup cover could do something for you. I've taken mine off two times just to see how does it feel and two times I've put it back and it will not be taken off anymore.
It does a fantastic job in giving support and consistency to your right hand. I've managed to use it as a support for my ring and pinky while I pluck by the neck side of it and for my thumb when I pluck by the bridge side of it.
And thanks to it I've managed after 25 years to play with a pick, discovering another world full of beautiful sounds. It's a fantastic support for the right hand palm as you pick up and down by the neck side of it.
I also don't care for palm muting. I mute with my left when I need to..
What a fantastic bass the Ric is. Just yesterday at rehearsal with my trio we did the usual long improv suite ranging from slow, deep, hypnotic Delta blues to no wave/post punk rage. Between fingers and pick and the vintage/modern push/pull knob I just had all I needed...
