NBD: Mike Lull IMA4 - When Thunderbird meets Jazz

If you follow Mike Lull Custom Guitars or Ian Allison on Instagram, you're aware of these brand new basses. They're a joint venture designed by Ian and build by Lull.

Only a handful were made. This was an extremely limited run. They went live on Wednesday and sold out almost immediately. I was fortunate to be one of the lucky ones who made it through.

Ian and Spencer Lull even included a couple of Polaroids. Spencer's holding my bass! What a cool dude.

Here's the details:
Solid Swamp Ash body
One piece Maple neck
Ebony fingerboard
Reverse headstock
Lull Thunderbird pickups (Jazz spacing)
Ice Green Metallic color
1.55" nut width
12" radius
7lb 7oz

This is probably the most special bass I have ever owned. I just can't put it down.

I've got a heavily modified Fender (that was done by Mike back in '14) with those pickups, in I believe the same spacing.

It sounds thunderous

Absolutely stunning! We are so fortunate that Lull is carrying on after Mike's passing. One of the top builders in the world.

Imagine a warmer sounding jazz bass that is very glassy & clear on the high end and growls on the low end. These Lull thunderbird pickups are the best bass pickups.

The Lull TBird pickups are absolutely the best. I have a friend who has some in three, soon to be four, of his Thunderbirds. Hitting the low E is spine tingling. But they are next to impossible to buy separately.

Yeah, they're very special. I described them as a 'warmer' jazz. That isn't really the right word, because they're so glassy on the high end. Maybe 'thicker' jazz sound? It's so hard to describe. Just ooey, gooey goodness!

What I love, is when you really lean into the strings, the bass responds with a sort of natural "overdrive"
