Got this as a steal from @Greggo
Thank you kindly

This is the best bass I've played in my life. Even without sitting it up to my liking, it outplays anything I've tried and sounds like what I've been chasing for decades.
The lack of neck dive allows me to play more lively and hit notes I was unable to reach while having to support the neck on other basses.

The sounds from YouTube videos I've seen fail to capture the vast range of this bass.
While it has the most extended lows and highs I've heard, the EMG-X custom pickups also have a lot of midrange. The neck pickup nails a P-Bass, and the bridge nails that nasal Jaco. Too nasal for me, I'm going to work on adjusting that rear pickup to nail the sound I want. Oddly, none of the 3 Allen wrenches provided fit in the pickup hex screws.
As it is, I wonder if I would prefer an EMG DC in the bridge, but I'm not sure if this Radius bass allows any customization like that.
Does anyone know if these EMG-X pickups can be swapped for other active EMGs like the DC? I know that routing would be needed since these are rounded, I'm just curious if they both have the same quick disconnect wiring and would be compatible with this EMG-X preamp

The lack of dead notes is a delight and made me aware of how much I had to avoid certain areas on my other basses.
Not only is the open low-B clear and usable, but this is the first bass where the D string is amazing. I'm used to a lackluster open-D and neutered harmonics on the D-string. But this is a game changer. What I gain with the 35" on the B and D strings, I only lose a little bit on the G string. It's still good, but doesn't have that motown thump I'm used to on my 34"ers

These goes for much more than they sold for during their first years on the market. But I wouldn't be upset if I spent $4,000 on this - it's everything I wanted.

Pros:
-Perfect weight and Balance
--Full-spectrum tone that's craftable to any sound I want.
-Fast playability and comfortable for hours of playing (even with my spine and wrist injuries)
-Perfect intonation and no dead spots
-Best B and D strings.

Cons:
-Bridge pickup is voiced for jazz/fretless, not rock/metal
-G-string suffered from 35" scale, but is worth it.
-Aluminum nut is cut very high, making fretting at 1st position a chore. I'm not sure it trying to file down the nut would compromise structural integrity.

Questions:
-I see this has a black polar piezo pickup, while most I see have a silver/aluminum polar pickup. Any difference between the two?
-Any way to swap pickups?

Purdy bass. I'm a huge fan of Ned's work since I saw the XL2 and bought my (Newburgh) one new.
Have lots of fun with it.

Measurements of the dimensions will tell you if they're stock sized, and I'd be surprised if they're not (4x1.5").
I'd message EMG and NS as both are very helpful, but again, I'd be surprised if the swap isn't possible, and even easy.

Hey Bliff, glad you are diggin the bass and I agree with much of your observations/opinions on this instrument. I don't think they get quite the love they deserve around here in general, but also realize the modern looks and sound are not to everyone's liking. It hurt a little to sell it, but all my regular scale basses have to go as I am just too old and weak to make good use of them anymore. I hope you enjoy it for a long time and it proves to be a fantastic investment. And yes, you got a great price on it :)

I had a serious TBI and neck fracture 8yrs ago. Plus I have metal rods in my lower back. And have broken my wrists.
So, I was worried the end of my bass playing days were coming to an end. But this bass has the lightness and ergonomics that let me play for a couple hours, when my Carvin has me maxing out around 30-40 minutes.
Thanks again for the second chance to keep playing

I had found it difficult to find YouTube videos of the Radius bass that gives a good sound of it without making it sound like it's brittle and all treble

Well here's a YT channel with a few songs on a CR4 that demonstrate the more vintage tones one can get on an NS Design Radius bass.

I think this is the best part of this thread. The NS CR5 is a great bass and this is a stunning example of one. More importantly. it's allowing you to play bass for extended periods of time. I'm so happy to hear you can seriously play bass again.

Best Wishes,
Bones
