The three bolt neck was not a bad design, but to make it quickly mass-producable, they made oversize neck pockets. Re-issues, and MIJ have a very nice tight neck pocket, and the three bolts do a good job.

Update: First snag . . . I noticed that I was getting zero output from the bridge PU so I unfastened the control plate and found that the hot wire was just diddybopping around all on its lonesome. I further noted that the pot was loose hence the likely culprit for the loose wire. I tightened up the loose pot (10mm nut, btw) and temporarily crimped the wire to the appropriate (center) pole until I can get my tech to fix it proper (or dig out the necessary equipment from wherever it ran off) and fix it permanent like.

I'm also considering acquiring one of these: (opinions welcome but no guarantee that they will be heeded)

I think that PG will look SWEET on the bass. Now I've got a bad case of GAS.

Ya know, I just gotta say, this forum has some of the most positive vibes I've seen on almost any forum. It's like the trolls don't even know this place exists. Gotta love it. I'm doing some repair work on my no-name fretless and when it's done I'll post a pic to see if anybody can identify what it originally was. I rescued it from a pawn shop with the neck all sanded down and the original frets pulled out ( how mean is that :eek: ).

I'll look forward to seeing that. I believe that much of the reason for the atmosphere on TB is because of the moderators. They don't allow things to get out of hand from what I've observed, and civility is therefore, largely maintained. Refreshing! They'll clamp down quickly on topics which are disallowed or which become too contentious and/or mean-spirited. Also I've seen very little in the way of personal attacks being tolerated. :thumbsup:

I think that difference is contingent upon the time of manufacture within the series. Did you take a look at the headstock right below the "Fender" logo? That's where I found mine. It's in gold lettering and very hard to discern.
