NBD..Peavey Rudy Sarzo time capsule

So my local Craig's List pays off again..The gentlemen that I purchased this from bought this in 1990.Took three lessons and decided that Bass was really not his thing.He took it to a couple of bluegrass jams to let others play it.After that it went in the case until they put their house on the market.The folks are retiring to Florida.Ill be the first one to adjust the truss rod.
All of the candy and cards are untouched as well as the Peavey bumper stickers.No scratches scuffs or cymbal rash on the headstock.Its really like a new Sarzo right off the rack from 1990..still has the plastic on the control box...Even got a set of unused Peavey balanced strings that come with the new Bass.
Asking price was $899 which I thought was at the way top end.After several emails and google /Talkbass searches we settled on $425.00
So add that to my T40 and I'm now a two Peavey owner.
Just goes to show you that there are still treasures out there if you are willing to dig..Cheers

I think the original asking price chased everyone away..The owners wanted it to go to someone that would play it..I'm going to do just that.
Craig's List is sometimes a scary place for us buyers and sellers..it amazing what can happen with some polite emails

@Instagator.... Fine score! Before you adjust the truss rod, take the nut off and lube only the inside threads with a small amount of Vaseline. Rust will form on the male threads of the steel truss rod and makes the nut hard to turn. This is the cause for most broken truss rods, IME. I started doing this about 20 years ago to any instrument that passes through my hands, old or new.

Yep..I do that with all of my set ups..I use Penn Fishing Reel Lube.If it's good enough for salt water fishing I suppose it can stand a little rock and roll snot..Cheers!

Wow. That is the bass that, for me, Peavey really proved that they could produce best of the best instruments. This and the TL series set the stage for the Cirrus bass as well.

That is a stunning example of a great bass.

Don't mean to derail the thread but I found this TL-5 on craigslist a while back at a very good price. Had never seen one in the Sarzo color pattern and haven't seen another one either. I couldn't resist using 1/4" stickers for the eyes. It wasn't a case queen and has a little gold wear on the knobs and tuners. It's almost pristine.

Just finished the truss rod adjustment and dropped the saddles a little.This Bass is a killer.Im glad I snagged it.

It chased me off.I thought the guy was cray-cray to ask that much and figured the hassle factor was more than I would put up with.Kudos to you on a nice score!!

I sent the folks and email showing interest, But humbly not at what they were asking.I stated that a beat Sarzo closed on Ebay at $411 earlier this month.I also did some comps on Talkbass..I did stay away from Reverb though I was polite and submitted an offer at less then half of what they were asking. It did help that the house was sold and they were packed to move. You never know until you ask.

Great find! Excellent price. Actually believe it or not, his original asking price (as crazy as some think) is about what nice examples of the original Sarzo basses do sell for now. I spent several months shopping for one last year and they do not come available very often any more. When they do, the ones I found were usually in the $750-1,000 range, but most of them had cosmetic/electronic issues. However, I can say the one I have is an absolutely awesome player with a huge variety of tone. I would put it against any of my custom "high end" basses I have owned in the past with confidence.
