NBD: peavey t40

I have an affinity for all the classic pickup positions, though I like the Far-Neck/Bridge of the T-40 best. When the dust settles I'll basically have two of each of Mid/Bridge (like a jazz or MM/J), Mid (though my fretless also has as piezo) and Far-Neck/Bridge.

As for cheapies I still have one, my first bass, a modded MIM. It covers the "P" thing just fine and is sentimental. However, adjusted for inflation and looking at the current fender range, I'm not sure a MIM fender really qualifies as "cheapie" anymore. My T-40 is a similar case. They used to be cheapies, now they're mid-range-vintage.

You ain't kidding on T-40 value, my red one even modded is worth a chunk more than what I bought it for. to be sure my middle pickup basses all sound different by virtue of pickups and the T-40/Ric/Jazz bass stuff is covered by the three I have, the little short scale is just its own thing with two pickups

i'm on the fence weather or not i should sell my t-40. its a cool bass, and in really excellent shape, but I literally never play it. Upgrading it with this neck would be neat, but I'm sure not sure Id play it!

Minor tweaks are one thing, but I wouldn't do expensive mods to a bass I wasn't in love with. Certainly not buy a neck that costs more than the bass. As an example, I put a 35" conversion neck on my parts jazz. It cost about as much as the rest of the bass put together. However I liked the sound and look of the bass alot already so I felt it was a good investment.

As much as I love my T-40, I'd say sell it on to someone who will love it. Market being what it is, you'll probably even make a nice bit of $.

Yeah, I'm not really considering this mod. It'd be neat, but wouldnt cause me to play it more... and I dont have that kind of money. I really like 35" scale basses for the dropped tuning i play, so my 34" scale basses tend to sit around. When I do want to play in standard tuning I have been reaching for my G&L and the poor peavey sits in the closet. Yeah the markets about double what it was when i bought it, so there's a good chance Ill be moving it soon.

i'm considering that with my dan armstrong. i've always wanted one but when i got it, i just wanted to look at it. enjoyed playing my ric or 51 pbass more.

The Dan Armstrong is a real looker. Good enough for the living room wall IMHO. In your place I'd probably still sell it but it'd be darn tempting to keep it just to look upon it's glory.

I only have one instrument that I keep solely to "look at". It's a parts Fenderbird built for fun of cheap parts just to have the band Travis sign it.
NBD. Cheap Parts Fenderbird. Could be alot worse!
It's technically playable (just barely) but I don't even count it in my number of basses because it's not for playing. Now that all of the members have signed it, it's just a cool canvas for their signatures to hang on the wall. Every bass I've got has got to earn it's keep. This one earns it's keep as a 3D band poster.

Sorry to have dragged this a bit off-topic.

here's the bass with the new neck. i'm just in awe how it feels much louder now, not clangy more of a grit but the notes are still pronounced. really heavy when you pick it up but it's not bad when you strap it on. the neck is comfortable wide and thin. i really dig this bass alot.
