NBD - Reverend Thundergun in Citradelic Sunset

Ok - I got this bass 1.5 weeks ago, but this was my first chance to take pics in daylight. So far I've played this at home and at a rehearsal with my 2 guitar/bass/drums/vox original rock band. It's awesome. I love the hot, yet vintage tone I can get out of it, and especially love the pillowy, clean low end it's capable of. More to come, but it has made an instant case to be my main player.

Further: the construction and assembly/finishing is purt near perfect as far as I can tell. I know some don't like this finish, but these colors are perfect for my tastes. Love the body shape. One concern is the tiltback headstock - I don't love the possibilities in my Mono gig bag so I might think about using a different bag or buying the (excellent) Reverend hard case. I am pondering putting a set of TIs on it….

Congrats on the new bass! I appreciate having interesting finish options and I'm glad to see them finding interesting homes. I'm looking forward to checking one out soon, thanks to your recommendation. What do they string them with at the factory?

I dig that finish. Reverend's body shapes (other than the Wattplower) and headstock shapes don't do it for me aesthetically, but this one with this finish and the one red Thundergun that the one member takes every opportunity to post look good to me anyway. I also love that Reverend dares to try different pickups in different combinations. Enjoy

What do they string them with at the factory?

Good question. They have no silks. The manual says "Round wound, nickel plated." The manual also says they are 45–100 but the website says 45-105. Feels like the latter. I like them enough that I haven't taken them off yet, which is saying something for me.

Nice. I had my eye on a Thundergun, maybe one day. I love that Reverend try things differently. My Jazzmaster has Reverend Railhammer pickups in and it's incredible! I can imagine those pickups sounding awesome too.

I have a Mercalli 5 on the way and I was also thinking of putting TI flats on it. Something about the shape makes me feel flats.

I decided to keep the stock strings on for a bit. Apparently they are S.I.T. strings - they sound really good, although obvs they don't sound like flats!

I'm ordering new nickels for the Mercalli 5. The bass that's coming in is 11 years old and I would rather start with something fresh. My OCD gets to me sometimes.

I'll feel out of the flats would be needed. It was just a thought.

It's fantastic. I am selling one bass due to this purchase, and I also (gasp) might sell one of my P's!

Yeah, I don't exactly feel that way, so I haven't quite made that decision yet. The TG is definitely more *versatile* than a P. But I do have other versatile basses, and I love both of my P's.

It may depend on the Mono model. I've carried my Les Paul and other guitars with tilt-back headstocks in M80s for over a decade with no issues. I don't throw them off of trucks though. I'd be less inclined to use a Vertigo, Sleeve, etc. for such an instrument.

Note that if the Thundergun has a scarf joint at the headstock, it probably won't ever break there.

Bass content: I carry my Gretsch G2220 (w/tilt-back headstock) in an older-style M80 that I originally bought for a Les Paul. My Decision P has an M80.

I can't get along with the DR strings I have on mine, but I have a set of GHS black tapewounds ready to go...should've put them on right away.
Had them on my old Thundergun and I have them on most of my basses.
Other than that, the Thundergun is one of the best basses in production today.

I'm using the Gruvgear Gig Blade.
The shoulder-strap option is really nice.
