The newest Rics all have this redesigned bridge. Not sure what date Ric changed over. As far as I know Ric intended to improve the intonation with better saddles/adjustment. Not sure whether they addressed the tendency for the bridge to lift at the end closest to the tail.

They have also transitioned or are transitioning to a single trussrod.

This was a blind-buy for me, as I've never had a chance to see/handle a Ric in person. It's got a different "feel" in the hands than my Fenders, so will take some getting used to (I've only been playing for a couple years, so there's that). And BTW, the strings that it comes with seem nice thus far. I prefer flats, but I'm going to keep these rounds on it for a while till we get better acquainted.

I'm another 4003 user with TI Jazz Flats. Plays and sounds great.

I also recommend adjusting the nut slots if they are high. Makes a huge difference to the feel of the neck. (And sand off the gloss... lightly, with 1500 grit paper.)

As much as I was drawn to the 4001 by Chris Squire's tone, I grew to appreciate flats on a 4001. Such as:-

Turning Japanese - The Vapours
One of these Nights - The Eagles
Daydream - The Wallace Connection

.....or pick anything from the Sixties/Seventies

They addressed that way back in the, what, late '80s/early '90s?, but caved in and reverted to the 5-screw after collective howls of derision and hand-wringing from RIC purists. Which proved, back then, that JH listens to a certain faction of Rickenbacker support.
