Just picked up my brand new, but used looking road worn Precision yesterday.
I guess I have just joined the " I'm a big poser, trying to look like a seasoned road warrior with a beat up bass club". As according to some around here.
This bass is great. Still trying to come to grips(literally) with the wider neck. But it shouldn't be an issue. This bass is more of a "thumping out simple tasty grooves" kinda bass rather than a stunt bass.
I tried doing some chordal, technical stuff and it's a whole new ball game with this bass.
I have a nice black pickguard on the way. I like the gold one, but I think black makes the bass look nasty in a good way.Maybe a tort will adorn it later.
Now for the pickups....I like them but they seem like nothing special. From what I have heard, they are just standard MIM pu's with wear on them.
Has any other RW users out there swapped out there pu's? I just need a little more ooomph. These Pickups don't have the greatest output and I did raise them up a bit too. Im thinking maybe sbp-1's, but Im not sure. I do have an old set of cream coloured dimarzio's that I like the look of. But Im not sure of the sound. They are a little darker sounding. So if anyone has any suggestions, please chime in. I just want a nice punchy classic P sound. Not too bright, not too muddy.
I think the strings that came on this are nickle plated, so that might be part of the sound that Im hearing too. I have never really liked nickle plated strings. They sound a little "soft".
Anyhow... enough talk.
