Been on the market for a new bass for a while but unfortunately I have a limited budget and was after something specific.
Wanted to go back to a more traditional sound and style and it was either a J or a P/J setup. I had checked out the Schecter and it fit the bill and it was on the short list.
Imagine my surprise when I happened to be checking on Zzounds and they had a blemished one in the color I wanted for dirt cheap. I couldn't click buy fast enough! List is $549 and it was advertised as "blemished" for $379. I figured it would get a few dings and war wounds anyway. It took me a few days to actually find it! Just a small scratch on the headstock where the truss rod hole is you can barely notice it.
It sounds great and plays great. Not sure of the exact weight but it's not unreasonable. It is a 35" scale and also can be strung through so you have to custom order strings if your local store doesn't carry them.
As has been mentioned here before the pickups are hot! I had to adjust my gain structure and also change the pad for the input on my IEM unit.
It literally got here a few hours before a gig and just had time to put strap locks on and check the intonation and played it that night. It's a bit longer with the 35" scale and took a few days to get used to but no real issue. I'm a small guy and had no problem adjusting.
Real flexible with the electronics with the P and a dual J with coil split. It gets very close to a traditional P with the front pickup soloed and also gets that P/J sound. The tone has a push-pull pot for the coil tap setting. Nice satin neck that's 45mm/1.77in at the nut and 19mm/.75in at the bridge. nice flat radius also on the fingerboard it feels nice.
A couple have asked on here about cases and it does fit in the Road Runner wood bass case which I picked up for $79 at GC.
All in all I'm happy with it and if you are debating it don't hesitate you won't regret it. Awesome value for the price range. It's not perfect though I need to shield the controls and have to swap the 2 volume for a volume/blend or volume/3 way switch (just my own preference YMMV) and it needs another string tree as the A string could use a better break angle behind the nut. Easily fixed with a $3 part. It is a $500 bass I would expect perfection on a $2500 Sadowsky.
Unsolicited plug: This is the second purchase I've made from Zzounds and couldn't be more pleased with them. They let you make payments on orders over $250. I have the worst credit on the planet and I got approved so if you were considering using them don't hesitate.
