It’s not original. My guess would be a series/parallel switch. Also, that switch makes me curious. No idea what it's for...coil selector? Active/passive switch? I guess I'll find out tomorrow! It definitely doesn't look as an "original feature".

If I get half the build quality of an EBMM SR5 for les than 1/5th of the price.... I still wouldn't mind playing one of these. It's a Sterling SUB, so it's the 'cheapest' of the import line. Quality and reliability are going to be about what you would expect in this price range.
I would say you get 4/5ths the quality and maybe you'll like the neck more than the original... this is a new sub from the bridge shape but it does have a switch which is an upgrade. As long as the neck is consistent with the 2 I own, you will be very happy, the sound is excellent, although as mentioned the preamp is hot, but good for driving straight in-amp setups like entry level usually is.If I get half the build quality of an EBMM SR5 for les than 1/5th of the price.... I don't think so, here's my originals birds-eye-tiger-stripe neck...maybe you'll like the neck more than the original
Depends on what you expect. The fit and finish on these is quite good. It's a Sterling SUB, so it's the 'cheapest' of the import line. Quality and reliability are going to be about what you would expect in this price range.
That's Very purdy I can see why you would be especially attached, but I was writing to this first time buyer and only talking about the dimensions of the Sterling Indonesia necks, which I personally like. Even though they are maple, I don't even have a ROASTED one. damn.I don't think so, here's my originals birds-eye-tiger-stripe neck...

make sure to post some pics here when it arrives: Stingray 5 Club!Which pretty much sums up why I ended up buying it LOL.
I first mistakenly compared dollars to pounds
Euro to dollars is currently $1.21 to 1 E
So
$349 = 288 E
349 E = $422
Looks to me you over payed, but as you said taxes, taxes, taxes.
I am about to pull the trigger on this baby. Thing is, I am not so "schooled" on Sterling/EBMM as I am, for example, on Squier/Fender. Surely it looks gorgeous. What about build quality, reliability, and such? I still think that for 400€ it's worth it. In the worst case it will remain on display in my living room lol

The prices for bass strings over here are usually more than double what they are in the US. So I buy my strings at Sweetwater and ship it to my country all still costing quite a bit less than it does here.I'll show you an example of "taxes". This is how much I pay for these strings if I buy them in US, shipped to Italy:

And THIS is how much I'd pay for them buying here in Italy:

Funniest thing? I pay no custom taxes on them. Absurd.
Just one thing about the preamp.
Didn't they replace the hot preamp with a better one two years ago?
