It's just the first fret on the B, and the open note when I pluck more a little aggressively (the latter is why I'm guess a lower slot). This isn't the first time I've encountered this. Luckily, my Elixirs have less buzz or rattle than the stock strings.Thanks, nice write up. I have personally never seen a nut on any bass cut too low! If it were me i would drop fill with baking soda/super glue and re-cut, YMMV.
So far I like Series in the back and parallel in the neck, punchy but articulate.
My M2 needs some filler for the E string, they set these up pretty tight, but flew a little too close to the sun this time!
I like that setting too. Sometimes I'll kick in the series mode just to boost a solo spot.
Nice! Were you experiencing neck dive or a functional issue with the stock tuners, or was it just an aesthetic choice (or all of the above)? Just curious.
Wasn't much dive, and yeah, the stock tuners looked boring.

The truss rod was tight, at least with too much resistance, needed too many turns, and couldn't get the neck flat. There were high frets everywhere, causing buzz, which has been the culprit of enough Spectors I've had. Most surprisingly, the bass DIDN'T sound like a Spector, even with EMGs and the "Legacy" preamp. The pickups could raise enough without being loose and wobbly, and they were installed crooked, as in not being able to get them parallel to the strings. Also, I'm not a fan of Darkglass, but gave them one last try, to no avail.
I believe you, I really wanted to love the Spector they have at the nearby shop, played with it at the store for a long time, probably annoyed everyone and I just couldn't get the sound I wanted without turning everything to max, and at anything less, it didn't sound particularly good. It has a deep and "sticky" finished neck that maybe dryer, larger hands might appreciate more and as a result just didn't play as well as either of my main basses. For my Spectra Pro to sound more flexible, play better and BE more flexible with a true preamp bypass as well, making it more reliable for the stage, at 1/3 the price... then there's the Warwick which does everything better and cost me $800 at a clearance sale in 2008...
Like your Jackson and Warwick, my affordable gems, besides the Sire, are two Schecter Stiletto Studios...around $625 a piece, used, from GC online.
I had one, but I found it quite unreliable, the pickups would walk up even when I shimmed them and put some loctite on them. It had no bypass and ate batteries in a real hurry, which required the removal of three screws (four? it's been a minute) to change the batteries. I actually traded it in on the Spectra Pro. Have you run into similar issues?
Never had problems with the pickups, but I like them right under the strings (EMGs like that, too). No bypass sucks, but I keep the controls flat (use an eq pedal) and have good battery life.
We're each of us different and frankly I'm glad that these basses found someone that loves them, because I had mine for six years and did my best to be good to it. Many a song was played, I don't want to give the impression that mine didn't get love.
