NBD - Sire M7 5 String

I have been promising myself a new bass for the better part of a year. I’ve been playing an old Epiphone Les Paul Special with some issues for about a decade, and it has always had some construction and moderate playability issues that were not affordable to correct, but it got the job done.

I was looking through Washington Music Center’s listings one night and fell in love with this. About 4 days later it came to live with me.

That's a very pretty bass. I like the colour and the way it makes the figured top more subtle.
I'd honestly heard of this model before, so I did a search and it looks like a really capable bass at a very reasonable price. I especially like the preamp/EQ and the look of the black ash one.

I would consider the weight fairly light, not being noticeably heavier than the Epiphone 4 string that I have had forever. If I had to guess, it is probably 9.25 to 9.5, but is really well balanced.

The B string is very tight, and I can dial in very Chris Squire pick tone and a very bright jazzy tone fingerstyle, but I haven’t had the time to really go at it. The g string has an almost bell like quality to it. I’m going to try for a warm vintage sound on Sunday, ehen Ivam off.

I run it through a full 16 channel soundboard out to an Ampeg SVT 410HLF, a 210, and a Peavey 118.

This setup gives me a lot of tonal control, but this is my first active bass, so there is a bit of a learning curve.
