LTFs work really well on the P5R strung through body, and I'll bet they would be excellent for the D5 too.

NBD: Sire Marcus Miller P5R

Oh yeah, different sound. More of a P-bass sound, deeper, thicker. Thumpier? My AI didn't want to let me write that word, so it must be correct?I'd really appreciate that but no rush at all as I've only just gotten my P7 less than 2 weeks ago. The one I have is the Sweetwater Exclusive which is a gorgeous bass but unfortunately doesn't have the mid-sweep only the cut/boost. No regrets though as I love it and am planning to get the New Gen V7 once they're released hopefully.
Main reason I was curious about the tonal differences between the P7 and the P5/P5R is they apparently have different pickups:
The P7 has the Marcus Super-PJ Revolution Set.
The P5/P5R have the Marcus Vintage-Fat Precision Revolution Set
Which is a good enough reason/excuse to get a P5 in the future if the tone difference is noticeable

Well then, the P5R is officially going on my wish list after the V7 (see how hard it was to convince me)
My only concern is how much chunkier the P5R neck (42mm nut) is going to feel compared to my P7 (38mm nut) which I love.
That being said, my favorite neck out of all my guitars is my Fender AM Pro II Strat which is a deep C profile with a 43mm nut so I should be good. Sadly, I have to order all of my basses online as the choices locally are very limited / near non-existent. In any case, that'll be much later but I do appreciate the feedback BJ

I was expecting the P5R neck to feel very chunky but it really doesn't. Even with 19mm string spacing at the bridge (my Rickenbacker has similar nut width but 17mm spacing) I've found it very easy to navigate, especially with the rolled edges. It's got a nice shallow profile too.
It's interesting to me that for the new generation of P7, they've gone to a 43mm nut width. That was one thing that drew me to it rather than the P5, but wasn't a strong enough draw.

@Bortron the 38mm nut width jazz-like neck on the P7 is what drew me to it as my first Sire bass as well, that along with the versatile PJ neck configuration.
How do you guys find the different body contours between the Strat-like P-basses and the off-set jazz basses? Is the neck noticeably farther out to the left on the jazz bass? Is it more comfortable to play sitting or not compared to the p-basses?

I feel that I reach less to get to the nut on the P5R than I do on my Jazz Plus. It is generally a more comfortable bass to play.
