NBD - Sire V5 5 String - All the frets!

Hey there fellow TBers!

Finally took this beauty home after an eight month wait with a couple ups and downs. Bad pic, but I'll take more.

I've had for a little over a week, and spent a good amount of time with it this weekend. The neck is awesome, and exactly the reason I ordered this bass. Fret work and rolled edges are super nice, but more than anything, the profile and spacing are ideal for me. At 46mm, the nut is a little more than half an inch narrower than a Fender jazz 5. Small number, sure, but big difference in feel for me, and definitely for the better. Playability of very good.

I tweaked the setup out of the box as the action was a bit high, but it will need further (slight) adjusting now that it has been home for a while.

Sound is also excellent. The 70s positioning of the bridge pickup makes a noticeable difference in the sound. I'd say with both pickups full up it's got a little extra snap.

Most pleasant surprise so far is that I feel it gets much closer to a P sound than other Js I've played or owned. I don't know if it's the pickups, or the position of the bridge pickup (dialed very low of im after something like a P), but I'm pleased.

A couple clips below made with my HX Stomp. I'm very much a rock player, so all clips will be geared towards that genre. Honestly, it's criminal how few demos for these basses show off their rock potential.

Also, boy I haven't been practicing... nor do I know anything about recording...

Mostly old school rock. The last one is more hard rock. Totally forgot to do any just straight up unprocessed DI stuff. Maybe I'll add later.

it always seems to work that way. good for you. and that's a nice looking/sounding ax you've got there --- congratulations on your new instrument!

Yeah, I had mixed feelings about the aesthetics at first, mostly due to the deep cutaway, but honestly, it has grown on me a ton. I think it looks great!

I weighed a couple times using the bathroom scale method. It's right around 10 pounds, give or take an ounce or two.

Well, I didn't take any more pictures... and I didn't record any straight/flat DI clips...

But I did record another sample of some hard rock tone. I have a one-track mind.

I also neglected to mention in the opening - there is definite neck-dive on this. While sitting, I need to hold it in place. I do have a good, wide, padded strap, and while standing, the neck dive is completely under control. Even then, I can still feel that the headstock wants to say hello to the floor. IIn case that might be useful info for anyone.

Nice bass! A couple of different companies make tuners that will not only be more accurate, but can shed up to half a pound off the weight of that bass.

Yeah, I'll probably replace them down the line. My impression so far is that the tuners are of similar accuracy/quality to my MIM Player P - which is plenty good enough. They're definitely better than in my Sire M2.

The block inlays look great on there! My recent Sire purchase is the first bass I've owned that has them. I haven't picked up a Sire jazz yet but I have a P5 and P7 that I really like. Enjoy your new bass!

I played a P5 in store and really dug it! If I could even approach justifying the purchase, I'd grab one with hesitation.

I just got and returned the Z7 5 -- Not sure if it was mine was bad -- so I have to ask -- The volume knob is clockwise for more noise, but on mine, the Treble, mid and bass boost were counter clockwise, almost like someone put the knobs in backwards -- does yours work that way? Also, I found the neck pickup was MUCH lower in volume than the bridge -- how bout for you?
