NBD Squier Affinity Precision

Just arrived today is a squier affinity precision. Paint is flawless fretwork is good with no sprout or sharp edges set up out of the box. Sounds and plays wonderfully, resonates very well unplugged. Now on to the ... Bad??? I guess you could say. Serial number indicates it is a 2014 made in china (CY14) contrary to what fenders website says it has closed tuners rather than open, a three ply pickfuard rather than a single ply, and had no stickers or tags on it despite being brand new, I have an email in to fender to check of this is legit or not, seems suspect unles they changed things up again.

I believe they had closed tuners until 2008

the 3 ply pick guard is the only upgrade, and I'm getting a red tort for it anyway, no upgrades here

yeah that was my issue, according to fenders website open tuners, 1 ply pickguard. which is why I am a little miffed. the closed tuners are smaller than the standard sized so I can't just keep them and change them out later.

I'm going to wait a few days to see if fender replies to my email, and if not I'm going to start calling.

Called up Fender last night because waiting a day for an email is too much. They ran the serial number and its on file, verified I bought it from an authorized dealer from authorized stock. They checked production notes no mention of them switching from the open gear tuners back to the closed tuners so as to where that leaves me.. I'm just not sure. The guy I spoke to said he'd "certainly understand if I were to return or exchange it" I think now that the shock of it not being what I wanted is wearing off I'll probably keep it, need be I can replace to tuners and Gotoh's are relatively cheap. Kinda sad (to me at least) that I didn't get to be ecstatic of my new bass right from the get go.
