NBD Squier Sonic

I decided that I wanted to try out one of the new sonic basses, but I was really only interested in the yellow one. So I ordered one directly from the Squier site.

It has a nice weight, not super light. Not super heavy. Haven’t weighed it yet. Love the body color, but the pickguard has to go. Haven’t really decided on a color yet.

Tuners feel nice. Love the satin neck. Action is nice and low. Pickups sound surprisingly good! Nice punchy sound.

The only bad thing is the neck sprout. Every single fret end is sticking out. I’ll be bringing it to my local tech to have him work on it. Other than that, I’m super happy with it.

Considering their price, cleaning up the fret ends isn't too big of a deal.
And I agree, that bright yellow finish is begging for a cool pickguard.
Maybe, checkerboard?

The yellow one is special, but I have to agree on the pickguard. I'd go with black instead.
Great bass for the money, no doubt about it.
As for fret sprout, you might want to try fixing that yourself...a twelve-dollar file, blue painters tape and some patience can save you $100.
(Just one thing, if you're considering a string change, flatwounds have been a problem for some people...you might want to consider LaBella low-tension flats or D'Addario black tapewounds.)

Yeah, filing fret ends is super easy. I’m not exactly the steadiest hand in the world, but I was able to file every fret end on my MetroExpress neck without issue. Made all the difference in the world, too.

I second on the BWB pickguard! I think it'll look pretty rad

Not knocking the bass at all, but it's a good price range for a bass to practice filing and repairs on. I've been looking at these for some time now.

Yeah, honestly I’m not even upset about it. It’s a good price for a nice instrument. I don’t mind doing some practice work on it.

Yep, fret sprout is easy to take care of and for me, it would be a satin black pickguard.

When the neck is straight and the truss rod is working fine, those basses are super good value for the price.

Dark Red Tort with lots of yellow highlights. Dang, I had a pic of one like that and can't find it. I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome this combo looked.

And, yes..... very nice bass!

This is my Sonic P bass with a BWB pickguard and a lacquered Classic 50s neck.
Went from skinny to fat!
