So, I was wandering around Denmark Street yesterday, and went into Wunjo's Bass Gallery. Let's just say I've gotten a few things from there over the years... Anyhow, I've had my eye on a Stingray or used Warwick Corvette $$. I was going to look at one there, when a Stingray 4 2EQ caught my eye. The price was interesting. I plugged it into a flat Minimark III, and the sound was awesome. Tight, punchy, with just the right amount of snarl. I tried out a nice Ibanez Premium afterwards, and to be honest.. it felt like a toy in my hands. And I LIKE Ibanez basses. After a brief conversation with the staff, they knocked a couple of hundred off the price, so I took home a brand new Stingray for an absolute steal. Behold. I never thought of even getting a red bass, but this one spoke to me. I like the stripped-down approach, and I always wanted a real classic bass to go on with the other crazy things I have.
Congrats - That looks identical to the nearly new 2-band Stingray I traded to Alex at the Bass Gallery in August towards my Classic Sabre. The 2-band models really do have a voice of their own and have more of the classic scooped traditional Stingray bite. Hope you enjoy it. I wonder if it is the one I traded?
This was brand new, still had the tags and plastic on it, so I don't think so! I've been jamming it through a small almost-dead Peavey that I have and it's glorious. It will see a lot of action that's for sure!
It should see a lot of action and you done real good.... That's gorgeous. And I hope folks don't don't lose their minds over "Music Man" being stamped on the bridge...
I got it for £900, so thats about $1400 or so. January sales! And I'm not clued up enough about what having Music Man stamped on the bridge means to have any issue with it... is there some secret to it?
superb. I bought a similar one (all black, RW fingerboard, 2EQ) recently, new, and got a similar deal (£1099 - 15% = £933), which I thought was also a good deal. They're lovely, and I even reviewed it here http://www.talkbass.com/threads/ebmm-stingray-review-after-a-few-weeks.1121122/ As I said elsewhere, easily the rudest thing I've ever played
Sweet. I have the same Stingray except with a sterling silver finish. They look so cool, and the 2-band eq sounds so good. Congrats!
No, not a secret, kind of an inside thing. I think the posts I'm talking about are somewhere in the hardware part of the forum. Don't you give it another thought, all Music Man basses, as far as I know, have the name stamped on the bridge. And that's perfectly fine with me! Just play that awesome bass all you can!...
Congrats on your new bass! What year was it made? If you want any info just call Ernie Ball with the serial number, and they will tell you exactly when it was made. I called from the store before I purchased mine, and found out it was made on my birthday! Kinda sealed the deal for me.
Woah, a lot of love for the mighty Stingray here! I'll get in touch with them and find out the details.... not sure but I have a feeling it's a 2014 model. I can't put the damn thing down! Good thing I've got time off work these days...
This site (www.music-man.org) has great info on Music Man basses. You can find out the age of your bass as well. Good luck!
