i'm sure i didn't see this NBD earlier --- i would have remarked on that great looking fretless in your collection! wow, great looking piece! all of those instruments look like they belong and that they can keep up. belated congratulations on your two new instruments!I never did a proper NBD for the fretless when I get that so it gets to share some of the spotlight.

that's actually a good ideaThe original owner of the Old Smoothie did that. It has the 2 band style preamp which doesn't have any center detents so I'm guessing the original owner put the jazz knobs on to make it easier to remember exactly where the knobs were for his/her desired tones.

On my Musicmans I loosen the knobs and align the set screws pointing up as the visual aid.
Yeah, that's a good idea. Like I said though, it was a previous owner that did that. I would have just lived fine with the original knobs, and perhaps just done what you suggest. All of my other Rays are newer 3 band so I don't have to worry about that as I pretty much know where I like the eq set based on the relation to the center detent.
