So I have the day off & $400 in PayPal funds, so of course I decide to hit up the Guitar Center up the street to put hands on a $399 Sire Marcus Miller V3 that’s there.. brought my strap from home to kinda strut around the store & see how it balances etc. Grabbed a Snark from off the tech desk & away I go!
Little bit of a neck dive situation with the Sire, but it sure sounds great plugged in.. active preamp sounds killer through the $419 Ampeg Rocket Bass whatever 1x12 combo, passive mode was mehhh.. so now I’m eyeing the amp! Could use a nice combo.. hmm
So I pick up this crazy looking Surf Green Squier to see how the amp handles a passive P.. lo & behold, the bass weighs noticeably less than the Sire (makes sense, it’s a passive P) and the balance is perfect! And the NECK! Whaaat why does this feel so good!!? The Sire was in need of a setup, for sure. But this Squier? Chef’s kiss.
Paced around the store with it and couldn’t get over how comfy the bass was. I’ve owned a few Classic Vibe Jazz basses over the years and found the P neck to be more up my alley. No dead notes, just super comfortable!
I debate between the Ampeg & the bass, then make my way to the register before I talk myself out of the bass. The cashier rings it up & tells me the total— which is WAY OFF what was on the tag. Apparently this one was priced @ $429 for some reason but it was supposed to be $500 something.
So we had a chuckle about it & they gave me the $429 price. What a horrible afternoon!
