I know that Matsumoku made instruments that were almost direct copies of Alembics under a few different brands. Some would argue that the Matsumoku's were as good or better quality.

Wow, awesome find! I used to have one way back when and I've never seen another since. I didn't fully appreciate all the tones you could get out of it at the time.
I remember playing one of those. as I recall, they played really nice, I never cared for the active sound.
Beautiful Bass though, and nice job saving another classic.
