Several months ago I set out to build myself a unique bass. A mash up between a Musicman and a Rickenbacker. It's finally completely done, and so here are some glamor shots.

Technical details:
Brand: home built.
Model: Rick-man
Scale: 34"
Strings: 5
Woods: Through Neck - Maple and Walnut with a Maple fretboard. Body - Mahogany with Birdseye Maple bookmatched top.
Pickups: (2x) Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder SMB-5D
Electronics: Seymour Duncan MM preamp STC-M4, North/South coil taps with MN blend pot for PU selection
Bridge, 16mm Musicman Style
Tuners: Gotoh GB-11 (2L,3R)

The Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder MM Ceramics are awesome sounding, and have great growl and presence. Having both the individual coil taps and the blend pot gives this bass an amazing range of tones. Basically the best of both a Jazz Bass and a Musicman combined. The pickup locations are based on the HH Stingray 5.

Took it in to a local music shop, and the girl at the counter said "any time someone walks in with a tweed case, I get excited." The bass guy enjoyed putting the bass through its paces. I'm "the OKest bass player ever(tm)" so it was nice to hear someone with some real chops taking it through some exercises.

Just one correction.
Those MM pickups are not Quarter Pounders. They are simply standard-wind MM pickups with Ceramic magnets (as opposed to AlNiCo being the standard). QP pickups are more or less 100% overwound coils.
SD’s description says they are designed to have that 90’s Stingray aggressive punch.

I have one of these SMB-5D’s in a box waiting for something to put it into…

They do weigh darn near a Quarter Pound though. But you are correct. They are not branded as such.

But they sound awesome!
