I will get a Sadowsky someday perhaps, I first learned of them from Jason Newsted so I tend to love the models he has (a multitude of Sadowsky's of course). I think I would do a 4 string fretless.
As the owner of one of them, I can only say that that is a bass you would enjoy every day the rest of your life. Not to mention make its cost back hundreds of times over, if you're so inclined! Band leaders and music directors love the sound of it. Didn't think about it at the time, but it was an investment for me, not an expense.
I would like fret lines on mine though : )
