NBD- THE WARMOTH BUILD (ahem, assembly) IS COMPLETE!

So, you all have been dying to know what would become of 2021’s most famous bass neck. Well after 10 months from design to finish, the dream bass I was building (or assembling if your one of those gatekeepers) for my birthday is finally complete. Here’s the deets:

-Warmoth was nice enough to build me their Mooncaster bass body (usually a short scale) adapted for a 34” scale. Swamp Ash body with a AAAAA flame maple top. This is what they call a Black-Brown-Yellow burst with a clear gloss. Cream binding.
-TvJones Thunder’Tron pickups.
-Hipshot D bridge
-QParts knobs
-I usually go CTS, but my supplier was having issues, so I tried Bourns. Definitely different than I’m used to, but I see why people like them. Sprague orange drop caps, Swithcraft toggle and input Jack. All cloth wiring.
-Warmoth also made the neck. We’ll call it AAA flame roasted maple in a reverse Tele style. Cream binding. Jazz width at the nut. Clear gloss coat. Ebony board, Gold Pearl inlays. Hipshot tuners.

Oh yeah, and in case anyone was wondering, it plays and sounds just as good as it looks!

Clearly you put a lot of thought and consideration into the details to create an exceptional, one of a kind instrument. Hopefully it plays and sounds at least as exceptional as it looks.

As much trouble as Warmoth go to on their website to ensure that we know this body is designed for short and medium scale necks, I'm really surprised they built it for you in a 34" scale version. I know they're flexible beyond options on the website, but I've never heard anything like that about a Warmoth order. Very cool! I like the aesthetic, I think you succeeded in not making overly gaudy or unnervingly opulent. Tastefully done!

@Dapper Dan they were actually very happy to do it. Said they’d been wanting to try one. They agreed to do this before I pissed them off with my neck complaints. Already had the body in hand lol.

Again, I thank all of you for the encouragement. I really did put everything I had into the design and build of this bass. I’m by no means a pro builder, so this was a labor of love. And yeah, it plays and sounds like a dream. I’ll get some sound samples up next week.

I welcome an answer to whatever extent you feel is warranted, but did they require a substantial surcharge for changing the scale length on the body routing?

I don’t remember exactly off the top of my head, but I feel like I was something like $50-75 more. Nothing crazy. About the same as they charge for any custom rout.

You should try out flats at some point. Flats played with a pick would sound really nice.

Thanks! That's not unreasonable. Far from it. One of the things that made me hesitate on a Mooncaster assembly idea I had was being unsure of the 30"-32" scale limitation. At 34" I would be closer to pulling the trigger. It's good to know that's an option.

Two things I don’t do is put flats on my jazzes or play with a pick lol. All the love to anyone who does though, just not for me.

As a Partscaster builder myself, don't sell yourself short. To anyone who thinks its just as simple as attaching part A and Part B to Part C, go ahead and try it.
