NBD unexpected Fender Player Plus

Well my wife certainly surprised me with a great choice on my 61st birthday today. I saw the box and was shocked, thinking maybe its another Casady in Pelham blue, I already have 2 and dont really need another, but what else could it be. She nailed it...Fender Player Plus in Olympic Pearl. The quality seems top notch, the fretboard looks great, round edges, the finish is beautiful, pics dont do it justice and the neck is silky smooth. Will string it with flats and set it up to my liking and weigh it tonight. So Grateful.

Weighs in at 8.8 , got lucky there I think. Got the action really low with flats. Only downside is no tone control in passive. I see there is a possible mod to get that feature so we will see.

Very nice! White + tort + non-maple fingerboard is definitely a winning combo. That’s a really nice looking (I’m assuming) pau ferro board.

Thanks, Yes pau ferro, Olympic Pearl is pretty tasteful. A just tad of off white sparkle.

I have a Jazz V Deluxe with the active passive toggle switch.
I actually like the voicing in the passive mode. I usually run passive basses with the tone control rolled off 75% and my bass with no tone control sounds right there. Any minor changes can be made on the amp. I hardly ever use the active pre amp. Guess I just like th assa t fender old school tone.

Btw, I didn't get as lucky as you on the weight. Mine's 10.6 pounds.

I usually run the passive tone wide open, so not much of a big deal for me. For me the active comes in handy going from finger style (passive) to pick (active) giving me the ability to set the pick tone up at the flick of a switch.

I found one of the green/jade pj versions on sale last week. It was was love at first sight. I played it for a while and now it's on layby whilst I pay it off for the next 3 months (so my wife won't get too upset with me).

After a bit of playing I decided to change the P pickup. The stock one, seemed to have a big 'modern' sound maybe. kind of boomy lows and aggressive highs. In went an Arcane 65 Experience and imho for me a great inmprovement. As Arcane is, even clear sounding across the strings. Plentyof clear lows, clear mids and just enough highs. Loving it. A side note.. i just spliced the 2 relevant wires to get the job done as its a rats nest in there, and I didnt want to undo anything thats there.. before pic...
