Man, this week feels like the old days back when I had new basses flying in and out of here like clockwork. Thankfully, those days are behind me... :whistle:

Many of you saw the custom 6-string Elrick build that arrived last week. I’m extremely happy with that bass. And many of you read about my F Bass fiasco with a Korean dealer who sent me the wrong bass halfway around the world (still waiting on my refund... :rollno:). When the F Bass 5-string fell through, and I found myself without a 5-string bass, I remembered this Elrick I've been eyeing for a few months. So I snagged it... and I am not disappointed (now all I need is my endorsement deal :thumbsup:).

This is an Elrick Gold Series 5-string with a holly top, black limba body, maple neck, ebony fingerboard, 35" scale, Bartolini Dual Soapbar pickups w/ Bartolini preamp. Right out of the box, it felt like home with the comfy, 8.9lb body, the thin/fast neck and really great sustain. I've said it before, Rob Elrick is my favorite luthier by far. His work and setups are top-notch, he keeps his word, delivers on time, and builds one heck of a bass. Oh, and now he's shipping basses in these really great embroidered gig bag/cases. They're really nice!!

I'm thankful I came across this. It's significantly more understated than my 6. What do you think?

Thanks. I’ve been through a few Elrick basses. It took me a few tries to realize how good his basses sound in 35” scale. I’m still blown away by his setups. You can slam the action and it’s crystal clear.

Yeah, the body wood is gorgeous. I’ve had a few basses where the back was the prettiest part.

The way the holly took the finish almost makes it look relic’d. It’s not. But if it’s anything like my last holly top bass, it will age nicely over time.

I had a fretless Elrick 5. It had a Holly top and a pink ivory neck. It’s a really great bass. I eventually sold it only to buy it back a few months later (at a discount!!). Kept it a while and sold it again when I started playing more upright. It was super lightweight and played like a dream. If it popped up for sale again, I’d probably buy it back. :rolleyes:

I had a Czech NJS in trans white. It’s a gorgeous bass. I don’t really play much 4-string anymore so I let it go. But I will say, it had the best action of any bass I have ever owned. Rob’s Czech basses are absolutely killer.
