NBD: Warwick Thumb Limited Edition 2013

to be completely honest, the low grade of neck dive, almost nothing, totally similar to my jazz bass, was a welcome surprise when I played it in the shop. I was hesitant at first because I played also a wonderful Infinity that sounded equally good, but the unexpected thin neck and balance helped me to choose this beast because I always think that the Thumb body shape is so damn sexy and I love singlecoils in the usual jazz bass position.
BY the way, my classic Thumb 4 from 2002 has a good amount of neck dive (counteracted in part using light machines and a good strap) and because of this aspect I have never used it on a long gig....shame...but I have to admit that its sweet tone is second to none and I used it in countless recordings. Enough for me to justify its presence in my arsenal.
The dolphin was also on my wish list, awesome bass, but in my country they are super rare animals, and I never played one...

Infinity bass? Was it 5string? Whats your opinion on that bass?

Im just Looking for test 5er with bartolini pups at local dealer maybe this winter, even maybe buy it after all =)

But one thing can stop me from that.The f holes.Not sure, but they can lack a density in sound.

Also i played one infinity with bartolini pups but it was 4string.Very Punchy thing.

Lovely bass. I picked up a 2005 Ltd Ed Corvette Hot Rod a couple of weeks ago, and it really is gorgeous. Well made, sounds amazing, beautiful to look at - I imagine that you feel a similar way about your new baby.

bah....I'm still taking time to digest the purchase. This bass in simply the best I have ever touched...even so that sometimes I feel guilty. I'm not a professional and my main axe is a jazz bass because of the music I play in this period and also because I'm a jazz bass guy. Quite frankly, sometimes I feel a bit intimidated by its class, and on certain days I just prefer my raw jazz bass. I'm conscious that this approach exists only in my mind and it's obviously unsupported by any real thoughts, but I cannot avoid it.
Recently, after only 2-3 months (bought 2/1/2014), I have also considered the idea of selling it...

Spent more time with the Thumb and day after day my love does increase exponentially...but this is not interesting for you folks.

Let me add some info:
recording with it I discovered to things. The first is that this bass has an astonishing ability to slot itself into a precise place when mixing instruments. Quite interestingly, the various pickup combinations all have that ability to cut, even the PUs blended 50-50. You could expect a j-type instrument (the PUs are singles and placed in the 60 j-bass position) to loose a bit of cutting when blending the PUs, not a bad thing by any means. The Thumb does not have any kind of mid scoop using the two Pus, maintaining that gorgeous fat growl in the midrange.
The second thing is that, as I can hear acoustically, the bass has a dynamic capability far above the majority of basses I have tried or owned in the past. Play soft-medium-hard and the bass shows a wide palette of volumes and heft to the notes. When tracking in the studio, this means that the right hand has to be very disciplined and, despite of this, I may need a good amount of compression, except maybe those contextes where expression is welcome and mandatory, like solos, jazz, fusion and fills.
I'm known as a player with a predictable touch, but this thing just loves vibrating and simply explodes with a powerful attack when I dig in, awesome....
