NBD with mildly interesting Peavey Fury comparison

I saw a Peavey Fury on the local classifieds and initially resisted - I already have a USA fury, what kind of idiot buys two? After a couple of weeks and matching price drops, I gave in and picked it up. Apparently I'm the kind of idiot that buys two...

"New" one is on the right (for all pictures):

Since I'm the kind of idiot that buys two of the same bass, I started comparing them. The serial numbers are close:

So close that Wikipedia says they were made the same year:

But, the decals are different. White one says "crafted in the USA" on the front of the headstock while the black one has "handcrafted in the USA" on the back:

Also, the string trees are different (round vs. half round):

(sorry for the blurry photo, I'm as terrible at photography as I am at playing bass).

And for the grand finally, the fretboard construction is different:

So there you have it. They have two different necks, even though they were built in the same year. Wow, this changes..... Absolutely nothing

I haven't compared the electronics yet, they both work so haven't had a reason to take the PG off.

As far as playability, the black one needs more adjustment before I can compare them. The truss rod was pretty out of spec so it's gonna take a little while to get right.

It's gonna take a long thin walled Gibson type TR key to adjust.

The TR nut on Peaveys is often sunk pretty deep and many require paring wood out the access area to get at the nut.

As to the changes. Construction methods were constantly refined to reduce time/cost, parts changed depending on the best price the purchasing dept could find.

I've bought two of the same bass... ON 3 OCCASIONS! I've had 2 x Fernandes Gravity Deluxe 5 at a time and 2 x Yamaha BB-615 at another point. Kept none of those. And since my #1 axe has been a (ceramic) Stingray5 since forever I added a second one in 2011. These are to be inherited by both my children.

I've played a couple Furys and loved them so if you asked me about 2 USA Furys, well, in my book that equals WIN.

I literally just picked up two Furys in the last two days. They’re my first with that model but I’ve had plenty of Peaveys before. Have yet to plug them in, but they feel great unplugged so far.

I'm sure plenty of us have 2 or more of the same basses! Must be we're all a bunch of idiots. Lol! Think about how many P or Jazz basses people have here... I actually have 5 Foundations 2 of them fretless.

Here's a couple close cousins, I've posted this pic elsewhere on the forums but I like it so here it is again. The blue is a '82 T-20; the red is a first generation '84 Fury.

That was kind of my logic. They were $60 & $50 so I can't really go wrong.
