NBD - Yamaha BB434

Hey TB'ers, I have been wanting to add a black and maple bass to the collection for quite some time. Also, have been wanting a BB for a long time as well. My awesome wife got this for me this Christmas.

Needs a little setup, but the build quality on the BB434 punches way above it's price point. Really happy with this addition.

When I started playing rock bass back in the late-Cretaceous, I swore off Fender style basses because everybody was playing one. I played a Gibson RD and a BC Rich Eagle exclusively. 15-years later, when I was in Antarctica, the McMurdo Station had only two Mexico P-basses in the music room. I adopted one of them as "mine" which began my conversion/love for Fender/Fenderish basses. I still don't own a Fender, but my last four GAS acquisitions have all been Fenderish - a Hamer Cruise (J-bass), Lakland 44-02, Ray34, and now the BB. They all feel like "home" to me now and are the ones I usually reach for first.

Lovely bass! The custom chessboard pickguard is a fun touch too. The bass in my profile pic is a 735A, I love the way it plays and sounds. We'd love to see yours over in the Yamaha BB Club that @SharpCat mentioned. I wasn't aware of the Black n Maple club, but I'll have to check it out... my '84 Peavey Fury fits the bill.

lol, this was my dilemma when I first posted this NBD. This BB is checking those two boxes in my latest GAS. I suppose I could post in both, but I don't want to be that "look at me" guy. Decisions

The only model in the current generation that has a maple fretboard is the 434/435, and that's just an option for that line. Most of the 43Xs have the rosewood board that all the other models have.

Correct. The maple board is a little less common but there are usually a handful available on Reverb. This one was from Sam Ash's liquidation.
