I always liked one of Ampegs early 70's advert slogans: "Slightly smaller than your average act of God". Pretentious, sure, but when pasted across a picture of a wall of SVTs and cabs, it kinda works.

I grew up and live in Newtown. Bankos was THE place to go in the 60's and 70's for what seemed to be incredible prices. Kids were coming home with instruments and amps that had seemed untouchable in Danbury. It is still there, a tiny hole-in-the-wall store, with so much gear it is like a maze from the door to the back.

 

That looks like an awesome '70s bass. Far out. Heavy, man.

 

Yeah Joe owns it now, I remember the neck cramps I would have leaving there after looking at all the instruments hanging from the cieling, you could go there and stay for hours and you still wouldnt see everything.

 

I'm in CT too- I'll have to check this place out. Seems far more interesting than the average GC around here.
