So back around the end of October I was in a discussion with my TB friend @dalkowski about a Squier Competition Mustang that was in the classifieds. We were both thinking about should we/shouldn't we buy it. He went for it, a smooth transaction and life went on.

But that inspired me, and my Squier Competition Mustang came in today. But where he got the blue with white stripes I really wanted the orange with red stripes. Put some flats on it, strap locks, and changed the knobs from black to red. It plays very nice and I didn't have to mess with the setup at all. I bought it on presale from CME. I really wish it had a matching headstock though. And I could not get a set of speed knobs on the pots either, have those on the rest and really like them.

I did shoot a video of the unboxing in case of damage, but all was fine. It was well packed, safe and sound.

Great collection. That orange with racing stripes is a looker.

What a nice addition to the family, Chris. I'm digging' the orange with the red stripes & pearloid PG.

Orange is just a happy color, isn't it?

I dig your collection. This orange one is a perfect sister for the other ones. And from left to right: the 1st and the 4th are my favorites. Really nice and fun.

Thanks for all the positive comments. Yes, there's a theme, I love short scales, I love colors, I have no personal need for more than 4 strings, like passives. When @dalkowski clued me in to the blue comp Mustang that he ended up purchasing that was the last push I needed to get the orange one.

The new bass is cool, as well as the rest... the classic in my mind is someone who decorates the man cave with a Three Stooges poster...

... my man.

:D That seemed a good backdrop. My music room may be the only one on here with KISS, Three Stooges, and WKRP all represented in posters. :roflmao:

Love the Adrian Belew looking ones!

Congrats!
Did you do the custom paint on the other basses? I’ve always wanted to paint one of mine.

Those were done by our two older kids. The one on the left was our daughter, she hand painted that about a year and 1/2 ago based on a graffiti design she saw on a train car. The one on the right was done by our son in 2012 or so as a senior high school art project. It's airbrushed and loosely based on Clapton's "crash #1."

Buyer beware though, painting a body and getting good results is NOT for the faint of heart. It's time consuming, frustrating and requires ALOT of patience. Have I mentioned I don't always have much patience? :roflmao:I love 'em but don't think I have another one in me. Good luck if you attempt it. My suggestion is buy a cheap body, any bass body, and practice.

Congrats on the new bass! Has that family grown a bit in the last year?

It was just about a year ago the one on the left was assembled from pieces purchased here and elsewhere. So not alot of growth. The two on the right have been with me a long time. The Grumpy guard one about 15 years and about 25 years for the one on the far right.

Les Nessman approves! Lol

:roflmao:
