New-to-me Muckelroy J5 fretless and Yamaha BBNE2. Still demo-ing and knob twiddling both, but very, very happy so far. I use fretless not for the Jaco thing, but more pop-oriented, Pino-esque. It excels, handily. Exceptionally even, no dead spots to be found, sings in every register. The BBNE2 has the best slap tone I've ever had, for one. Still working with the EQ and mid-cut to figure out its versatility. They are both beastly. {}
I've always loved those BBNE2's, especially the little things like the tuners. I've never heard of Muckleroy, looks like a sweet bass! What kind of pickups are in it?
Pickups are Kent Armstrong USA Dual Coils. It was built by Brady Muckelroy out of San Marcos, TX. He builds in small numbers and everything I've heard of his is exceptional. I also love the tuners on the BB, and the fit and finish is pretty extravagant overall.
These, together with my NG3 5, Spector Euro 5, and Roadworn fretless jazz (soon to be a piccolo), make sure that any musical situation will be covered. Still gassing for a nice P and MM.
The Yamaha is quite elegant looking, even though I don't usually like gold hardware, and they've very nice basses overall. Happy with how it sounds and plays?
It is a bad mama jama. First song I broke it in with was Haboglabotribin' by Bernard Wright. Pretty close to the Marcus slap tone.
Sheesh. Both lovely. I've no experience with Muckleroy's, but I've at least touched a Nathan East sig in a store once or twice. They feel incredible and hold, quite possibly, the lowest action without buzz I've ever experienced on any bass. Sexy, too. Good stuff. Enjoy em
Awesome! Yamaha makes really great basses......they're definitely a "sleeper".......but there is a solid following! I've never help a BNE2 in my hands yet, but do plan on it one day! That fretless looks stunning too!
