NCAA Football 2017 Week #13

USC and UCLA already played. Yale and Harvard already played. Stanford and Cal already played. So much for this week being rivalry week. Ohio State plays Michigan, and the one that really matters is this week - the Apple Cup. Here is where I officially tell Pilgrim that his father smells of elderberries and that the Cougs are headed for another splat at the hands of the Dawgs.

Truth is that it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Cougs beat the Huskies this year. The Huskies seem to have fallen apart. They won on Saturday, but it was hardly convincing. The Cougs had their turkey game, but they seem right back on track. Plus, if they win, they play USC for the Pac-12 championship. The Huskies play to beat the Cougs. Actually, that's reason enough for most Huskies.

Bucky v Minny for Paul Bunyon's Axe.

Badgerzz better not let this be a trip up game, but the Goph's aren't "rowing the boat" at all.

Badgers should win big....again. The Badger defense is stifling.

There's still a lot of other good rivalry games this week, though:

This may be the year the Aggies FINALLY get a dub against LSU. Please?

I would like to see Stanford beat Notre Dame this year. That would scramble things up pretty well, especially if Stanford or WSU beat USC in the Pac-12 title game. I'm not a fan of the knee jerk inflation of USC's rankings. They aren't that great in spite of reputation and fancy recruiting class rankings, y'know. I don't think it will happen, but a man can dream, right?

Notre Dame is on my short list of teams I always root against, so I'm right there with you. USC was also on that list, but their post-Carroll era has really brought them back down to earth. That being said, I'm not a fan of them being hyped to the moon and back every season, so hopefully this will lead to a very hearty portion of crow at the ESPN cafeteria.

Or Florida? I know I'm a homer, but Chip seems to favor the east coast. And it's been a very long time since UCLA last came within shouting distance of a title--seems like USC almost always gets preference from recruits.

Mind you, I'm not an unabashed fan of Kelly; he comes with risks.

The Battle of LA is always a tough game, so I agree with the AP. How the committee votes, though, is still TBD (read: we don't know what ESPN is going to tell them yet)

This morning in Colin Cowherd, he was talking about Baker Mayfield.
It cracked me up when he said Mayfield plays in a 'video game pillow fight conference'.
He then talked about the character/ego issues around Mayfield that will follow him to the NFL. Manziel part II.

I may be slightly biased since I'm an Oklahoma alum, but I don't think telling the fans to go back to rooting for basketball and the crotch grab/FU combo are as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be, especially when you consider the Kansas captains didn't go in for his handshake pre-game and told the kids on the field not to as well. Plus it's not like he's partying hard or doing copious amounts of drugs like Manziel did.

Also, Lincoln Riley said Mayfield isn't starting next week against WVU, but we'll see how many plays constitutes "not starting" - my guess is only a few.

Yeah, you're biased, but that's ok. We all are to some degree.
It's a big deal to lack leadership skills and act out like he did as the leader of the team.
He's young, so we shouldn't expect more. Problem is, he'll be thrust into the spotlight on a crappy NFL team and that lack of maturity is going to cause problems.
I'm not down on the guy.
Winston is in the same boat in Tampa. I wish these guys that need it had more time to mature mentally/emotionally.

I get ya. And to clarify, I'm not condoning what he did, since my previous post certainly has that tone to it.
