NCD: Peavey 1516

I wanted a cab I can just leave at our drummers so I dont have to tote my rig.
Found this Peavey 1516 at the local pawn shop for $100. I had the 1820 when I first started playing. This was quite surprising. For $100, Im satisfied.
Gave it a good scrub and wipe down. Read to go to the practice room. Maybe I'll install some casters tomorrow.

I rather like the 1516s and would like to find one for no particular reason. They aren't terribly loud, but they sound really good and get loud enough for me. At one point, I envisioned a 1516 on top of a single 18" with a crossover (okay, processor) and a stereo power amp. But never pursued the idea.

There was a time in the 80s when I carried around two Peavey 3620s! And powered them with first a Crown DC300 and later a Peavey DECA 1200 with the obligatory external cooling fan. Up and down the big clubs and hotel lounges of the Southeast. Fun times. It's a wonder I have any hearing left, but I'm still tuning pianos, so I guess I didn't totally destroy it.

Enjoy the 1516!

Assuming you added the finger foam in the woofer chamber, did it improve the sound significantly? Make any change to the mids chamber? I’m liking your sideways stack to line up the eights!

I relined both compartments, or the 15 and the 2x 8's with a foam mattress topper. It did help tighten up the sound a bit, and reduce some boomyness.

The one thing I wanted to try was to extend the depth of the ports a couple inches to lower the tuning of the box some but never got to it. I did do this to a 215D but didnt notice much difference.

As long as you don't boost the "low" lows (40hz ish for my head) these cabs can hit hard and loud. I cut 40hz and boost a bit at 80hz usually.
