I was looking for some 12" cab for home practice to connect to my Ampeg PF-20T, in place of Ampeg 210 AV. The 210 is a very nice cab, but in a 15 sq. m. room could be a bit too much. I was thinking of Orange OBC112, but couldn't find one in stock to audition, and the rear port bothered me, since the cab should sit close to the wall.
Last week I found the Gnome 12/4, and after playing through it in the store, it came home with me.
What can I say, for 290 Euro ($340), it is a nice little cab. The construction is unique in that the port doubles as a handle. The cab is lightweight at about 13 kg. The build quality is more than OK for the price. The sound is nice, it goes deeper than 210 AV for sure, but it is the mids that are the nicest thing. They are rich and detailed, without being honky. Interesting thing is that the tweeter can be regulated continuously through a pot. Very nice, since you can dial in exactly as much of the tweeter. I found my sweet spot to be with the pot at noon.
All in all, a nice, inexpensive cab for home practice and small, quiet gigs. Being only 4 Ohms means that stacking two would be impossible for many amps, and the cab doesn't have a parallel output.
