Except, I don't trust the velcro on the grille. It seems alright, but it ain't no ampeg velcro. I'll probably sink a few screws in it. But my God, it's sounds so nice.


It tips and rolls so easy too. Like all the weight just disappears. Picking it up though, bad news. They put the handles a little bit too low for a one man lift. At least, being over 6 feet tall. That's the only thing the ampeg has on this guy. Handles on the hlf were placed perfectly.

But, the slide rails are pretty beefy. Should be a cinch to get in the truck regardless.

See, it's more towards the bottom of the cab. My thought is that they were thinking more of, "if we put it down here more, it'll be easier to get up higher" rather than one man dead lifting it to move it around. But you know, so far the pros way out weigh the cons.

900 watts at 4 ohms is pretty beastly! How do you like the amp?
I know I love my Ashdown 4-10 even though its a tank, the handles on it look cool but are kinda inconvenient.

Yeah, 900 rms. Clean as hell too.

Amp's pretty sick. I'm starting to get used to it. The whole amp is just something I've never dealt with before. I just kinda went for it.

Ampeg amps have 3 knobs, a couple switches, and the same tone stack (more or less) throughout their entire line up. This little sucker has a very funky eq where every knob and slider kind of plays with everything else. It's weird, but I'm getting used to it now. I dig it.
 
Ha! I broke it. Ha ha ha ha.

Easy fix though. Back up and running.


So, while testing is limits there was an unsettling noise. I broke a speaker. One of the copper leads came un attached from the solder joint. I noticed that speaker was moving more than the others, so I hooked the cab up to a 9v. Sure enough, that one sucked in. Pulled it out, and noticed one of the copper wires running to the voice coil was hanging free. I soldered it back up, and tested it again. Ta da! All speakers moving out in unison. I rock :)

Except, I broke a screw. Hahaha. Always something right? Whatever, good as new. I'll pull that thread out and replace it at some point...or not

Very cool how the grill structure is made.Cut around the horn and all,shouldnt warp.
 
At least I know now, that my amp on full blast, with heavy eq and bass, will break a solder joint before these speakers even fart. Fairly impressive.
This reinforces my point that many players can’t hear the speakers being driven beyond their safe limits.

I wouldn’t call that impressive…

It was one bad solder point. Stuff happens

Speakers were fine
That’s not a solder failure, it’s not how the lead-in wire connections are constructed. They always fatigue-fracture.

Yeah, it was that lead in wire. I fixed it though. I was actually thinking of hitting all of them, to eliminate the problem completely.

I meant that the speakers were impressive. Not really the connections. How the they handled it sound wise.

Soldering will INCREASE the likelihood of lead-in tinsel wire failure.

Damaging the lead-in wires like that is always a sign of gross overpowering at low frequencies.

IME unless you are monitoring real-time vibration signatures (or another appropriate metric(s)) of specific parts, fatigue failures are hard to see or hear happening until the actual failure occurs....then it's a bit late in the process to prevent anything other than possibly secondary damage.

My engineering partner of 30+ years worked on the vibrational destructive testing program for the Apollo re-entry vehicle. They routinely shredded seemingly strong assemblies.
