Neck Thickness

Hey guys,
I got my neck shaped up, almost done. Its a six string, board is radiused at about 35''. thickness at the first fret is 24, at the 18th, about 27. What are the specs of a Fender? This bass is not for me, its not for anyone in particular either, ill put it up on ebay probably. So... what neck thickness do you guys like to play with? what is the average?

I personally like the necks that Ibanez makes. In fact one of the most comfortable necks I've ever played was a Ibanez SR 5-string. The thickness at 1st fret is 20.5mm, and at the 12th fret 22.5mm. In fact I am planing on to make these dimensions to the bass I'm working on right now. But in your case it's all about a 6-string, so go to Ibanez homesite and check out the neck thickness on their 6-strings...
But if you want to know the standard, check out Fender basses dimensions, like it or not, Fenders are the oldies that once upon a time set the standard.

22mm is about the average at the nut, some thinner, some a little more. from there, taper is all about feel. If it feels good to you, it's right where you want it.

I went for a very thick profile on my 6-string neck and ended up with 28mm at the heel, 23mm at the nut. It's actually quite comfortable to me and I have medium size hands, but the profile is much like half of a baseball bat. I think my preference will always be thin bass necks, I have played on so many different custom bass necks in the past several months with around 20-21mm thickness at first fret that I have found incredibly comfortable. Of course, it's all preference! So as long as you have a very consistent profile and you're happy with how it feels, you've done a good job.

I dig thick necks now. I have a thin flad "D" shape neck on my main axe, but now that I practice more I notice my hands cramp up faster on the thin neck then on a thick so the bass I am building now I am keeping thick . Almost like what Jonesbasses described, just a little thinner at the nut.
