That was a great movie, and great scene, and he did it (and many other roles) quite well indeed. Sorry to hear he's gone.

Ned Beatty was one of my favorite character actors. Burt Reynolds said he stole every scene he was ever in. His comedic delivery in 1941 was hilarious. His serious roles, such as All The Presidents Men, while sometimes just a small part, always brought a human authenticity. Then there's Deliverance, a role he regretted the rest of his life. But his performance was downright chilling.

I don't think there was a movie he was in where he didn't elevate the quality just by his inclusion.

One of my favorite roles was Sheriff J.C. Connors in White Lightning (1973).

RIP Ned... one of the best character actors ever.

My dad always liked him. He was also in a sitcom in the 80s that didn't last long.
