Need a 410 - Mark Bass or GK Neo?

Looking to get a 410 cab to go with my ashdown ABM500 head. I've used various Ashdown cabs in the past like the ABM410 and am happy with the tone, although sometimes its a bit heavy to move. Ashdown cabs are a known factor to me, so they are a safe bet...just a tad heavy

I'm wondering if i can get a similar tone and save my back with a Neo 410 like the Markbass Standard 104HR or Gallien Krueger NEO410. Only problem is i've never tried these cabs so don't know what their "baked in" tone is like. I want a punchy, loud, 1 cab solution. Another advatange of the GK or MB cabs is i can get them in 4ohm so they'll take the full power from my head. Need to be reliable and not fart out at higher volumes

BTW, play a P bass with pick with some grind, or occasionally fingers for motown tone

GK for me. Markbass are good just a little bland to my ears.

Cheers for the info. What is it about GK you like? Or do you just prefer GK in a choice against MB?

GK is going to be better bang for your buck, but in terms of performance/volume both GK and Markbass are good options. Markbass will be lighter, but if you're more concerned about tone than weight I suggest that you try out both cabs as both have inherently different tones. The GK Neo's seem to have a little more tonal diversity than Markbass cabs (which have a more contoured upper-mids that might help/hurt your tone), however that being said I have been able to find my tone with Markbass (I use a MB500 into their new york 122). Markbass gear is pricey, but it is lightweight and dependable. If you can find your tone with Markbass, I definitely recommend it!

Very different animals in terms of baked-in tone. The Markbass gear is going to have a low-mid bump that works great to cut the mix but cannot be EQ'd out. I would define the Markbass cabs as punchy and loud but you can get that with GK as well.

Have you thought about the Ashdown Neo 408 Mini? 4x8. Not a 4x10 but it might be a good compromise at 48 pounds? Then you could stick with Ashdown.

Possibly, but 1 or 2 reviews i've read were a bit "meh" but that was for the 410 styled cab, which seems a bit different to the one in their current produce line up:

Spec's look good but they are also quite a bit more out of my budget. If i had more £'s i'd be going for a Barefaced rather than Ashdown

You are going to have to push pretty hard to get either one to "fart out". The one thing I will say about the G-K NEO410 it that it is low end heavy, but it does respond better to EQ adjustment.
