Need a bass amp for an old blues man

hey Figaro,
my story is similar to yours, I am 50 and have been away from bass for 16 years
when i got back in I purchased some neo cabinets, didn't like the sound at all
I prefer a warm vintage sound and they were too middy and harsh for what i was looking for. too bad
what i did end up gettting was a Galien Kreuger MB500 head (4.5 lbs) and a Traynor TC1510 cabinet. (1x15, 2x10 and a horn in a single enclosure). now this cabinet is definitely heavy (88 lbs) but......... it comes with casters and i never take them off
transporting this rig is very easy, i can even put a bass case on top on the cabinet, the head i can almost fit in my pocket....lol
everything in 1 shot

i realize this rig is far out of your price range but it would do you for just about any situation you run into

I'd recommend a Gk MB115 or the Carvin.. actually the Carvin looks like a better amp.. more versatile.. You may not have to spend $500 .. but either of those are light and portable.. It looks to me like the Carvin has more features though..

Please tell me what used combo or head/cabinet would be a "best buy" for me. Your opinions and recommendations are appreciated.

From one old bluesman to another: Get one of those Genz-Benz Shuttle things. Find one used. Get two Avatar 2x10 cabinets. Spend the money. Your spine is worth it.

Most of the old blues guys around here are using GenzBenz. Depending on the output needed, either a shuttle3 with 115, 112, or 210 cab or a shuttle6 with 115, 210, 212 cab. I see these things everywhere, once you get into a big gig or something, the Genz have a good DI.

I was going to suggest this as well. I'm 58, got a bad back and can very easily carry this amp up my basement stairs and can load it into the back set of my Ford Focus.

I let a good friend of mine borrow it once and he liked it so much that he went out and bought one!

Try before you buy and good luck with your search.
