Need a drum machine that switches patterns in time

I have an old Zoom drum machine. But, it's not meeting the current need.

I need a drum machine that will allow me to switch patterns in time while I am playing. In other words, I create Pattern 1 for verses, Pattern 2 for choruses. Then, while playing along,
I want to let Pattern 1 loop enough times and then, while playing, request a switch to Pattern 2. When I request Pattern 2, I don't want it to switch immediately - I want it to switch, in time, when Pattern 1 is completed.

Some drums machines support this, and some don't. Can anyone point out a current affordable machine that does?

keep the old one ...get a new one...midi them together and use an a/b switch.

Not familiar with the Zoom. They all work similarly though, create patterns in pattern mode, string them together in song mode. That allows you to change patterns as dictated by the song form.

Yes, I know I can string them together in a song mode, but what I'm talking about is - for me driving it live, while I'm also playing the bass.

I want to be able to switch between one pattern to another while the band is playing, with that switch being:
- arbitrarily chosen [i.e. a dance tune, the crowd is dancing, and you want to extend the tune before returning to the chorus]
- in perfect time

There are drum machines out there that do this.

Anybody?

I have only owned 2 other machines in history, and I had this feature before, so it has to be one of those blasts from the past:
- The original Alesis
- A Yamaha RX somethingorother

Who's got the current Alesis? Can it do this?

Found it - Boss DR-3 does it.

DR-3 has no way to back up the patterns.

Anybody know if the Alesis machine can do what I described in the original post.

The HR-16 let you command the machine to move to the next pattern after the current pattern finished playing.

I can't recall if the Alesis allowed any greater flexibility than moving from pattern N to pattern (N+1).
