need a good 5 string bass. i play hard rock and jazz type stuff and i prefer i jazz style neck and pickup setup and i like active also.

will be first real 5 string and i have a budget of lets say 600-800 usd

Fender Deluxe Active 5 MIM, should be available in your price range. Carvin bolt on series too, if you skip all the upgrades.

OK so Jazz pups and neck, by that I am assuming you mean a thin neck, not a Jazz shaped neck or body (look) to the bass.

Several options, I would look at Ibanez, they have basses with bart pups in them stock and on board pre-amps.

I hear dean basses are worth looking at as well. I have been kind of eyeing the Dean Hillsboro 5 string, it is active.

Cort, yamaha, Carvin, and peavey probably have several things that meet your criteria, you should try to play some of them at a local music store and see what sounds and feels right to you.

Ibanez SR505. I have one, and I love it. You can get almost any tone you want, it has a faster neck than most fivers.
