Need a good, decent practice amp

buy used and get more bang for the wang.

I really love the Orange Crush Bass 50 - 1x12" 50W Bass Combo. Its over your budget but can sometimes be found used for less. The 25 watt 8" speaker version is also nice for a small amp, but the 50 watt with the 12" has been really good to me.
@shababy32 there are a lot of good suggestions here. Of course suggestions for Rumbles, Vox, Hartke, and Peavey's. For several years I've been on an odd quest for myself. Our home is not very large and wife allows me a small space in the living room for practice and noodling. I honestly have gone through more than half a dozen or more practice combos in the last year.
I've discovered a couple things for myself. I LOVE having a nice deep low end when I rehearse, it makes my job easier and inspires my playing. I have only found one incredible combo with an 8" speaker. I've tried almost all the major brands.
I set for myself a minimum of a 10" speaker for my combo. It will give me that deep "E" and sound much fuller than an 8." I recommend you consider that instead of an 8." The second consideration is if you can raise your minimum from $200 to $300. You will live with the practice amp a long time, get something that will be much more professional sounding than something that cost $179.
Besides the usual suspects I've found several likely candidates for consideration, and to contradict myself, I have one combo with an 8" woofer.
The one 8" combo I would consider is the Gallien Krueger MB108. I owned it last year, and after all the other combos I bought and returned, this is the only one I regret sending back. For 110's, there is a new combo out called the Blackstar Bass U60 combo. It has 100 watts and an 8" speaker. It reminds me of the old Tech 21 combos that are no longer available. It looks totally professional. There's a Peavey Max110, Ashdown AAA 60T, Vox VX50B, and of course the Fender Rumble.

sorry you can get a BA115v2 for $250 at several retailer. The 1x10 is like $180. I don't know why you'd buy anything else if you're on a budget.
I like this Orange little bad boy. Built-in tuner, AUX in, cab-sounding headphone out. Cool.

Having bought myself a little 1W Blackstar for guitar playing, and occasionally used it for *very* quiet bass practice when I couldn't be bothered to get a bass amp out, I noticed today it has a *switched* external speaker socket. So its going to sit on top of my 150W 10in ported wedge and double as the bass practice amp.

Just spend 250 on a Ampeg SCR DI. It's got a headphone output, and everyone seems to love it. All the same pre amp controls. You can probably get one used for 200
Try to find used gk mb210. Has speaker capability. I added a jack to mine and can use as cab also. Very light and great tone ability. Will probably exceed budget but well worth it. You could spend $200 & 5 years from now it might be worth $0 or spend $400 & 5 years worth $250-$350. Which is really cheaper
i like GC's acoustic line, but when playing with lots of attack, i can make any one of them fart out. i would guess the same thing applies to slap.
keep in mind that the microcube RX is only 5 watts with 4 little speakers. it's really not made to act as an amp when playing with people except quiet people - no bluegrass or other loud music even when acoustic. for quieter at home play, it's pretty awesome.

Heh. Tang. That and Space Food Sticks fueled my childhood. My son and some other Boyscouts got hold of the Industrial Size jar of Tang on a campout and made Tang Pudding. Then it got ugly.
