Need a little push to switch to G&L...

Hi. I have a 6-string Ibanez SDGR 506, and I have been very happy playing prog-rock with it for the last 3 years, but now that I moved to Spain and joined a funk(ish) band, I am not so happy with the sound I get. I've been trying some other basses and, eureka!, I found a G&L L-2000, at a very reasonable price (580 Euros). What I liked about it is that I can get rock, jazz, and funk sounds out of it (maybe even more), but I would have to trade in my Ibanez to get it, which saddens me... Advice?

There is no comparison in terms of feel & character. The Ibanez will feel like plastic after you've played the L2k for a month.

If it weren't for the fact that you've got a 506 (wenge and bubinga neck?), I'd agree with this. But the 500 series Soundgears have the best feel for the money. The G&L will be good to you, and the pickups are outta this world.

On the bright side, the SR506 is a cheaper bass, and can be easily re-acquired down the road if you decide you miss it.

Grab the G&L!!!!

Playing the basses are all the push I ever need. It would be nice to keep them both ... but you really have to decide by direct comparison of the two specific instruments ... afraid the internet can't be much help.

I had a SR905 and put it up for sale a few days after purchasing a used Tribute L2500. The Ibanez was, possibly, the most comfortable that I have ever played. Light, lovely neck, contoured body etc., but the G&L just rolled the Ibanez up and smoked it in terms of sound.

Two G&l's would be better than one G&L and one Ibanez. You will never go back.

Thank you all. I should have clarified this before (though you probably noticed by the price)... It is a Korean-made G&L. Does that make a big difference? Is it still a good change?

It's a socalled tribute, and I have one. It's really nice, much nicer than many of 'em new indonesian L2k's. Mine outplays most USA G&L's and every other bass I've tried to this day that doesn't cost 5 times as much...

Well I'd say 580,- EUR is not a bargain. Pretty much a standard price for a new Invalid Link Removed. At least here in Germany.

Do it. I got myself a L2K a month or so ago, and I really love it. Extremely versatile and very good value for money. My next bass is going to be a L2500, and them a fretless L2000 or L2500.

AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL. I FINALLY DID IT. I ORDERED AN L2K, SUNBURST, AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT NEW BABY TO ARRIVE HOME... IT CERTAINLY WILL FEEL AS 9 MONTHS.
The best part was, I didn't have to get rid of the Ibanez, I just had to work a few extra hours to be able to pay the G&L's whole price.

Hi everyone again. I just got the L2K today, and it is quite a beauty. The sound is unbelievable, and I can't wait to go to my band's practice room to try it out with proper sound (I use a little practice amp at home). I have a concern, though... The strings, with the setup it came with, "fret" (hit the frets, I don't know what you call this in English, in Spanish it's called "trastear"). I changed the setup to raise the strings a bit, far more than I'm used to, and as much as I can tolerate, and the problem was gone about 90%, but it's still there. Is this normal? Thanks again.
