Well, from what I gathered from my marketing curriculum, here are two guidlines.
1. Less sylables = better, prefferably one word. Easier to say. Names like Dave Matthews Band get cut down to "DMB" or just "DAVE."
2. Start your name with a letter that is at the beginning of the alphabet. When you are listed on band promotion sites, your name will come up first.

my all time favorite band name belong to a local band in my area (south-east texas)... they go by the title "very ultra"

NAME YOUR BAND, "GENGHIS KHAN ENTERTAINS MARCO POLO IN HIS CRYSTAL THRONEROOM" but, I already named a song that, so you'd have to gimme credit.
as for ones you can just use and not ggimme nuthin' fer...uhh, like, any long phrase that is describing something happening
"AS A SINGLE SHOT RINGS OUT AMONG THE CROWD OF DISSENTED ONLOOKERS, A SMALL BOY CRIES"
or... "SMALL PIECES OF PLASTIC FALLING ENDLESSLY TO THE FLOOR IN MY LIVING ROOM"
you know, something like that. It'd be SEXY.
