Need a new "every day" string!

For a year or so now, I have been using D'addario Half-Rounds on my Fender (short-scale) Mustang, which is my every-day bass. I LOVE the tones that the strings help me get out of the bass, like their feel, and their tension is good - maybe a perfect string for me. However, D'addario has recently stopped making the Half-Rounds in short scale! Now I'm down to my last pack which I will put on today, but don't know where to go from here. Can anyone recommend any short-scale strings that can give me tone close to the half-rounds? I can make do with any string feel really, just don't want to sacrifice the tone. Disclaimer: I have a top-loading Mustang, and I know that D'addario and GHS's short-scale string length works but not sure about brands with longer short-scale lengths such as DR, etc.

If you like the idea of trying another set of half-rounds, GHS Brite Flats (Alloy 52 half-rounds) do come in "short scale" with 32.75" winding length (ball end to silk).

If you don't mind the idea of trying a set of rounds, GHS Balanced Nickels (pure nickel on a round core) do get positive reviews among short-scale players. Again, they do come in "short scale" with 32.75" winding length.

Fender tuner posts are big enough to where you could wrap the fat part of a long scale Half Round set around them with no breakage. I had a set of long scale Half Rounds on my Jay Turser violin bass for years, and the tuners aren't nearly as big.

Oh wow, good to know. This won't affect the intonation or performance of the string itself? Also the tuners on mine have been upgraded to Hipshot Ultralite 1/2 inch Lollipops... do you know if the string would still fit?

Came here to say GHS Pressurewounds, especially if you like the D'Addario half rounds. I don't use them on my Mustang, but they are awesome on my Ric. From what I've seen almost all GHS strings are available in short medium, long, and long+ scales so anyone should be able to find a string that works for them.

Noooo!!!! I did not know that. I have a set on my Beatle bass (knock-off).

I concur with the GHS Balanced Pure Nickels. I have a set on my short scale bass. They are the godsend to short scale bass players: big, round tone, consistent up the neck and string-to-string, they don't flop or twang or go thump, they have good longetivity and are reasonably priced. Jon Moody designed them for short scale basses.

I don't have an answer for you, but I use the same on my (long scale) J bass after trying many different strings. It totally made that bass! I'm hoping they don't do away with those also.

The only thing is Ken Smith Compressors (Alloy 52 rollerwound) and Slick Rounds (Alloy 52 half-rounds) only come in "long scale" with 38" winding length (ball end to silk), while GHS Pressurewounds (Alloy 52 rollerwound) and Brite Flats (Alloy 52 half-rounds) do come in "short scale" with 32.75" winding.

Nope, doesn't effect performance or intonation, and 1/2" posts are just fine.

Yeah I guess in my exhaustion that obvious detail about the ops needs went right over my head.
