Need advice on this bass & amp please.

First up, welcome to Talkbass. Always nice to see a new person join us. You’re among friends here.

It’s a good time to be a musician. Even the starter instruments and amps are of decent quality thanks to modern manufacturing processes. The price on that package seems reasonable to me. Squires are good basses and Rumble amps will get the job done. So it looks like an excellent place to start. Far better than what many of us had to start out on.

Hi all, looking for a bit advice.

I don't have a bass s yet, and have never played one, but at the age of 58 thought I would give it a go. Just for in the house use, I've got no aspirations of anything beyond that.

I'm looking to buy used, and going to have a look at a used Squire p bass (affinity) and Fender rumble 25 on Friday.
He's looking for £130, is that a decent price? The price is about what I want to pay tbh.
They both look in excellent condition, and says very little use.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A Fender Rumble 25 is a really decent combo amp, and is plenty big enough to do anything you'll want to do in the foreseeable future. I bought my '78 Fender P-Bass from it's original owner in 1988, when we were stationed in the UK. He had a very active band, playing regularly in most of the pubs and enlisted clubs in the area. I wanted to buy the same amp he used; when I asked what it was? The answer; 'A Marshall Bass 12 combo amp". And in the venues he played? Plenty loud enough - and it was half the output of that Fender Rumble. I used mine until it just died, about 5 years ago. I replaced it with a Rumble 500 and an outboard cab, but I've been playing since 1968, and I have basses - active basses - that didn't work well with that old Marshall at all... That's a problem you won't have right now...
