Need Advice/Output jack

Hello

I have a 2006 MIM Fender J bass. The output jack nut was loose so I tightened it down gently and when I went to plug in....nothing.

I plugged in another bass to make sure it wasnt my amp and thankfully it wasnt.

It appears that the output jack has shorted out. My question is may I replace the output jack in my J bass with that from a squier p bass?

Ok thanks a bunch.

I know it looks like a simple repair, but was just wondering if it could be swapped out. As for buying a new one I dont think I will. I have a squier that sits and sits. May as well use ot for parts if needed.

Uhh - yeah. At this point, and trying to not be snide --- I read it but never saw any resolution, only speculation on what might have or have not happened.

The longest journey starts with the first Phillips screw - so take the PG (or cover - fixed) off and have a look-see. That's gonna cut the speculation and sage advice until the real reason for the malfunction is found.

But then you said you're gonna swap it out from a pirated part from a Squier and THAT requires un-soldering and re-soldering.

unscrew the jack plate...pull it out and look at it...then fix it. unless you've already buggered it up and it has to be replaced...then replace it.
or pay someone to do all that for you.

total evaluation and repair time = 10 min.

This is a great place to start in maintaining your own instrument. I doubt there is anything wrong with the jack itself. As others have said, the jack rotated when you tightened it up and either shorted the wire or broke the solder. It has happened to me, too many times to remember. Best policy, pull the plate off and hold the jack in the proper position when tightening the nut. That is the correct way.

thanks... I know how to take the thing apart. Know how to solder, know how to use a screwdriver, know how to figure out if a solder joint is broken.

My question was can I swap one output jack for another output jack. Simple. But uhh yeah thanks for the advice.
