Been playing a couple of years - Fender Jazz bass - will be playing with a 17 piece swing band. Looking for a combo amp in the $500 and under category that will carry, with features that can shape the tone to sound more like a double bass. Any suggestions?
I know this isn't what you asked, but I agree with the above post. I put a sponge under the strings of my fretless, back near the bridge. Turn off the bridge pup, and add a touch of reverb to the signal, and you get a pretty good upright sound. As far as the amp question goes, you should be able to find a nice used amp in that price range that will be gig-worthy.
