Need amp advice

I'm running (2) GK cabinets... both are the "regular" and NOT the "backline" models. (1) 2x10, & (1) 1x15"... both cabinets are rated at 8 ohms.

I'm putting my '57P bass through them and need a new head... my old GK head is rated at 4 ohms and can't handle the impedences with BOTH cabinets going.

I want to get a traditional '60's warm sound... I DO NOT want to spend $2,000 on an Ampeg head... something in the $500-$800 range would be better for my financial pocketbook !

Any suggestions as to which head to get with this combo... the speakers are great, the '57P is a dream machine... now for a new head ! Thanks.

Your amp is 4Ohms and you have two 8Ohm cabs that create an 4 Ohm load, so you´re old GK will serve perfectly with them.

As the previous posters said, you're fine running both 8 ohm cabinets together which will result in a combined impedance of 4 ohms. Your old GK head will be safe. If you just want an excuse to buy a new head, make something up and get the GK 700 RB, which should be in the financial range you specified. It's a great sounding amp and you won't lack power.

What GK head do you currently have?
